About
Hello, I’m Dan. Welcome to my corner of the internet.
In the 1625 essay, Of Studies, Francis Bacon wrote:
Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man.
This statement made a lasting impression on Samuel Johnson over 100 years later who would write in praise of Bacon’s observation:
As Bacon attained to degrees of knowledge scarcely ever attained by any other man, the directions which he gives for study have certainly a just claim to our regard; for who can teach an art with so great authority, as he that has practised it with undisputed success?
An in that same spirit, may we also endeavor to broaden our minds through reading, speak with readiness, and add precision to our thinking through the effort and discipline of writing.
