My wife and I decided that for our first Christmas together we would get a fake tree. Why? The usual reasons:

Cheaper over time

Less of a fire hazard

No pine needles stuck in the vacuum

Less hassle

Perfect conical shape (very realistic!)

With these brilliant reasons behind us we decided to search online for a nice fake tree to add some Christmas character to our living room. Now arguably the best solution is to buy one about 3 days after Christmas when everything is on sale, but practically no woman wants to celebrate this special day without a tree.

We first checked out ebay.com to see what was available. After some searching, we stumbled upon this 6 foot 350 tip gem for only 15.99!

PERFECT! Cheap, but nice and since we’ll probably upgrade in a few years this shouldn’t be too bad at all. Well when the box arrived it looked just a little too small to actually have a 6 foot Christmas tree inside. But we held out faith and the Sunday after thanksgiving we quickly opened it up to find this inside:

Yes that does look like a metal pole with toilet brushes hanging warily off the side. I was appalled.

After going through the five stages of grief we decided that we just couldn’t keep this tree. I collected the box and the few branches that came with it and decided to spread our meager holiday cheer to any of the neighbors in our apartment who were so unfortunate that they could not even afford a tree this year. I left it in the laundry room with the following note attached:

And so our first Christmas together has started off on a rather odd foot! We did eventually buy another fake tree.
