One of the key tenets of fundamental Bible believing Christians is the autonomy of the local church. As Baptists, we are one of the few relgious organizations that refuses to have a centralized “head church” that gives directives down to the lower branches. This has many wonderful benefits and aside from being the Biblical precedent, would be a good idea if only to keep heresy and corruption from spreading rampant through our churches.

There is one drawback to this method though. Because there is not physical unity among churches, sometimes we forget that we are one church all united through Christ. Too many baptist churches seem to compete against each other, sometimes making efforts to sabotage the ministries of other churches in an effort “win”.

The key is to remember that whether your church is big or small, we are all on the same side!

Remember these verses in Ephesians Chapter 4:

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,   One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

We are all on the same team!
