In the course of our lives, we will have the opportunity to see many people rise and fall for various reasons. These situations will create many lessons that can be learned to better ourselves. I feel though, that too often we look only at the good examples. While it may be good to see things that we can emulate, I think it is also important that we learn equally from the bad examples.
Pro 24:30-32 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
In this section of Proverbs, a man let his vineyard grow over from slothfulness, and his neglect at his work and the consequence thereof was of instruction to a young man. we need to be equally careful to observe those who destroy themselves as warning to keep from the evil way.
