Pro 14:9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favor.
This verse is incredibly clear and easy to understand, yet so many (including myself!) really probably don’t get it. What does it mean to mock at sin? Myself and many of my christian friends have done plenty of what I would consider “making a mock at sin” yet shouldn’t that be unwise?
Is this verse saying that anytime I make a joking reference to some kind of sin that I myself am sinning? If it truly does mean this, then there is plenty of unconfessed sin running rampant in our churches today. I suspect that this verse truly means that we shouldn’t be lighthearted about sin, but that it is ok to make fun of wrong doing and joke about it in a derogatory fashion, and I think most people take this approach to interpretation. Sometimes I just wonder, thats all!
