Have you ever walked up to someone and asked them if they were a good person? After plenty of experience witnessing to people on the street you will find that almost everyone claims to be a good person. Sure they’ve messed up, they won’t argue that. But deep down they are truly good people. This phenomenon is proved here in the Bible:
Pro 20:6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
The trouble is that most people aren’t good! The way to show someone that their dire need for a savior is to demonstrate their utter depravity. The bast way to do this is to show them the law of God and ask them if they are innocent or guilty.
Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Go through the 10 commandments (most people are familiar with them) and ask the person if they’ve broken God’s law. Demonstrating utter depravity in this manner has been the most affected in my experience. Some will be offended, so be gentle and kind. But it is better to offend than to condemn someone to hell because of your silence.
